Book Review: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

Thankfully, I have found another 5 star read. I am so glad. I didn't get to start this one right away, once I received it from Book Of the Month club, as I was in the middle of a few running books. This is the first thriller I've read in a bit and it was GREAT!

If you're looking for spooky, skin-crawling, mystery...this one has all of those things. Also, it's important to note that there were quite a few BIG twists at the end. And, you know I love a twist. I finished this one by the pool and was so thankful to have some quiet time to sop up the last few pages.

This was the first book I've read by Riley Sager, I'll have to keep my eyes open for Riley's others, as I've heard they're all great.

Book Review: Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer New Release May 2020

5 Stars for Girls of Summer by @nancythayerbooks!

I've been on a roll again with good books. This one didn't disappoint and is another summer beach read that I high recommend if you're looking for something easy-going and offering to take you away.
Set on the island of Nantucket, you can practically see the cedar siding houses, bright blue hydrangeas, and feel the slower pace of life with each flipping of the page.

This book has a great ending, all bundled up nicely. It begs for you to pack a bag with linen pants and a hoodie and head on up to Nantucket. I fell in love with the imagery, the quaint setting, and the characters.

Looking for a book to carry with you on the long roadtrip to the beach? How about one to read while you have to stay where you are? This one is it.

Dear Netgalley, please don't disown me because I have not addressed my approved books in awhile. I purchased this book the first time I stepped inside my local bookstore since the town reopened and I needed it. That's the thing about books, they wait....

Book Review: Running Home by Katie Arnold

5 Stars for Running Home by Katie Arnold!

This book was beautifully written. I'm on a running book kick right now and this book was a treat! I found myself completely immersed in this sweet book Katie wrote about her life, and the whole left in her hole and spirit after the death of her father.

You will laugh, you will cry. You'll highlight and star paragraphs that you'll want to come back to later. This one deserves a spot on every runner's bookshelf. As a newbie to running, I was fascinated by Katie's drive for ultramarathon running and her ability to transcend the pain and trials she faced. The best part about this book though is that it doesn't matter if you are a novice who runs/walks or someone who is a competitive runner, you will be able to relate to the whys of running.

I was blown away by the imagery and descriptions Katie used to describe the settings she runs in and the memories she had from childhood. Also, because of Katie, Santa Fe is on my "must visit," list of places to see.

Book Review: 401 by Ben Smith

4 STARS for 401 by Ben Smith!
Ben Smith tells an amazing underdog story with 401. He ran 401 marathons in 401 days. Yeah. Really.
A book about turning the troubles and emotional baggage from your past into fuel for good, 401 is a great albeit atypical, coming of age story.

I'm currently on a "running book," phase. As a new runner, I can't get my hands on enough documentation about running. Common themes that I read about the lives of runners I see in myself, which reminds me when I'm not running that I have what it takes to run.

Ben's story is remarkable. He says over and over that he's just an ordinary guy. But, he is doing extraordinary things and making a difference 1 person, 1 reader, 1 runner at a time. He sold all of his possessions in order to have the money he needed to hit the road. And, all the money he raises goes towards anti-bullying organizations.

I loved this book, and it will remain on my shelf as a beacon of hope, light, and encouragement when I need it. If you're at the beginning, I think you'll find a voice that resonates with you as well.

Next up, Running Home by Katie Arnold.
